Supervision for Education Professionals

A protected space to step back, reflect and think

In emotionally demanding roles, supervision provides a vital container for professionals to process feelings, reduce stress, and build resilience.” - Peter Hawkins

"Coaching and Supervision protect well-being and serve to prevent exhaustion and burnout.  Both spaces provide opportunities for powerful thinking and professional growth."

There is no denying it, working in schools  can trigger a wild array of emotions ranging from joy, frustration, satisfaction and at times, despairWorking in education can be demanding, complex and emotionally intense. Whether you're a SENCO, school leader or ECT, having dedicated time to step away from the day-to-day can make a real difference.

Reflective supervision gives you a confidential, supportive space to process what's happening, explore challenges, reflect on your practice and consider different perspectives.

With over 20 years' experience in education, including as an Assistant Headteacher and Inclusion Manager, I understand the pressures and complexities of the roles you are carrying.

What is reflective supervision?

Supervision is dedicated time and space to step away from the day-to-day demands of your role and think about what’s really going on.

It gives you the opportunity to:

  • Offload what's been weighing on you

  • Reflect on situations, relationships and decisions

  • Explore the emotional impact of your work

  • Unpick complex situations and professional dynamics

  • Challenge your thinking and identify blind spots

  • Consider different perspectives and approaches

  • Protect your wellbeing and build sustainable ways of working

This isn't another meeting or another thing on your to-do list.

It's protected time to think.

Having someone outside the situation who understands the complexity of education and SEND can make all the difference.

What can we explore in supervision?

  • Managing the demands and complexity of the SENCO role

  • Reflecting on challenging situations or difficult conversations

  • Navigating parent, pupil and staff dynamics

  • Thinking through SEND and inclusion challenges

  • Exploring leadership and decision-making

  • Managing workload, boundaries and competing priorities

  • Processing the emotional impact of your role

  • Developing your practice and professional confidence

  • Finding more sustainable ways of working

Why work with me

With over 20 years’ experience in education, inclusion and neurodiversity, I understand the reality and complexity of working in education - not just in theory, but from experience. I’ve worked in senior leadership and inclusion roles, supporting school leaders, SENCOs, staff, pupils and families through challenging situations, complex decisions and periods of change.

I am currently undertaking specialist supervision training with the Centre for Supervision Training and Development (CSTD Bath), developing my practice as a professional supervisor. My approach is also informed by the Supervision in Education Quality Standards Framework (2025).

I bring together my experience in education and inclusion, coaching skills and developing supervision practice to offer a calm, confidential and reflective space where you can step away from the demands of your role, think openly, explore challenges and gain perspective.

You don’t need to have all the answers. Supervision gives you space to think.

How it works:

Six sessions across the academic year

  • A structured programme of six 1-hour online supervision sessions, with one session each half term.

  • Each session provides protected time to step away from the demands of your role, reflect on what’s happening and consider what you need next.

  • Sessions can be shaped around the issues that are most relevant to you at the time, whether that’s a challenging situation, a difficult conversation, a leadership decision, workload and boundaries, professional practice or simply having space to think.

What you can expect

  • A confidential and supportive space

  • Flexible, reflective conversations shaped around your needs

  • A focus on your professional practice, development and wellbeing

  • Space to pause, reflect, gain perspective and identify your next steps

Cost

1:1 supervision: £300 for 6 sessions

Group supervision: £240 per professional for 6 sessions

The wider impact

Supporting professionals who hold complex roles can have a positive impact beyond the individual.

Effective supervision can contribute to:

  • Greater staff wellbeing and resilience

  • Increased confidence and motivation

  • Stronger professional relationships

  • Greater staff "buy-in"

  • More sustainable approaches to workload

  • Reduced risk of stress and burnout

  • Improved staff retention and attendance

Depending on your setting and the purpose of the supervision, this may include school CPD and professional development budgets, staff wellbeing funding or Pupil Premium funding where the activity meets the relevant funding criteria.

Investing in the professionals who support children and young people can have a positive impact across your whole school community.

What My Clients Say

George

"Working with Gemma has been such a joy - and truly transofrmational! She's supported me through retraining as a coach and setting up my own business, and all the challenges it's brought. No matter how stuck I feel going into a coaching session with Gemma, I always come away feeling lighter, motivated and empowered. Her coaching style is second to none: she always makes me feelm so heard and understood, but isn't afraid to challenge me when needed to shift my perspective or mindset. Thank you, Gemma!"
